What went wrong with Bunny?

Remember Scary test bunny and Scruffy bunny?

Well, I’ve had some bunny shapes cut out on my desk for months and this week I decided to tackle them. I can honestly say that I’m cured of any desire whatsoever to make bunnies. For now at least.

So, what went wrong with bunny? The fabric is a very soft cotton which kept catching and snagging. The ears are the same - as in the rough edge on the left ear should be facing the opposite way to that on the right. I also managed to leave an arm out, which meant unpicking the stitching (I use the term ‘unpicking’ lightly, scissors were involved).

Oh, and the face. The face! Two things with it. It looks creepy and I need to practice my machine embroidery! When I finally work out how to use the all-singing-all-dancing embroidery machine, one of the things I want to do is make a face! Button eyes just don’t do it for me.

None of this was helped by being able to hear my MiL humming the Go Compare advert over and over again (and yes, its now the only thing going around and around in my head). Still, good to be creative! Now to tackle some more of those outstanding projects....

  1. Well I think he's kinda cute, and I love the button eyes. However I can sympathise with badly behaved fabric, I think all we sewers have come across that before (and it's not always the cheapest). Don't give up though I am sure you will perfect him in the end.

  3. Sounds like one of those projects you just want to stuff to the bottom of the sewing basket. One year I wanted to make an angel for our Xmas tree. This involved a small amount of sewing. Sewing and lightly padding a flatish round face and painting on the details. It literally took me a whole sewing box of nude, cream, White, orange and then yellow fabric to get anywhere close to acceptable and then on Xmas eve I finally gave up and saved the last piece of yellow to make a star which went fine. I keep the stupid angel face at the bottom of my needle box and stab it with pins if I ever see it. Bloody thing. Wasted much festivity over that.

  4. Ah bum! I posted a similar blog story the other day about a sewing incident that went wrong! Very annoying! I just keep trying to tell myself that when things go wrong it's just helping me to improve my skills for future projects! x

  6. I know how you feel!
Lianne I have the picture of an angles face in my head now!! LOL
We all have those projects don't we. But I still think bunny is quite cute, I have taken 2 years to get to where I am with my owl tea cosies and the ever changing face. Just keep at it, also take a look at good bunnies on Etsy, take the parts you like and make your own! Kxx
