This has been a hard one to think about, let alone write because I really struggle to stay motivated, no matter how much I think I want something And because its something I struggle with frequently, I'm going to think back and refer to things I have wanted in the past and what has worked for me then.
Motivating me in my making - getting sales and getting good feedback motivates me. Seeing how many views an item has had when I've tweeted or blogged it.
Weightloss motivation - in the past I've gone to numerous slimming clubs and done well. And not so well. But the best I've actually done is when I've gone it alone. It takes me a few weeks get into it but I do it by immersing myself, as it were. I surround myself with slimming magazines and articles. I read many blogs, articles and forums, scouring for helpful hints and tips. And I record everything. Weekly weight loss, monthly weight loss, what I've eaten, how I've felt, the exercise I've done etc etc.
I'm sure there's a lesson here somewhere for me. On both points.

Fear of time running out (Ahhhhh panic. I could be dead tomorrow!!). Praise (well it always helps doesn't it, sometimes it has the reverse effect). Mainly though the desire to learn ('Ooooh what's that?!?!?!?') and the desire to join in (Ooooh that looks fun, can I play?')
ReplyDeleteThings that don't motivate me are academic/professional success, money, power, competitiveness... I'll generally rebel and slow down when confronted with these motivations.
That's really interesting Lianne, thanks for commenting. I'm not particularly competitive either, so I find it difficult when dealing with people that are. Its the whole 'I'm better than you' .... thing, that I really don't like!
